BPEC Endorsed Gas Safety Awareness for Cavity Wall, Loft Insulation and External Cladding Installers Course

Perfect for those installing cavity wall and loft insulation, this BPEC Endorsed course is approved by the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA) and also covers relevant areas of gas safety legislation.

The 1-day course will give you and your staff the confidence to work safely and legally around gas appliances when installing loft insulation, cavity wall insulation or external cladding.

The course is based upon the below elements of Appendix 6 taken from the Standards of Training in Gas Work document by IGEM and EU Skills – IGEM/IG/1 -Standards of Training in Gas Work.

A6.1 – Safety Legislation and basic safety

A6.2 – Combustion and its control

A6.3 – Flues and Ventilation

A6.5 – Domestic pipework installation (Cladding installers only – where applicable)

As previously mentioned, the course covers relevant gas safety legislation and standards including the Gas Safety (Installation & Use) Regulations. Further to this, the training also covers health & safety at Work Act and HSE RIDDOR rules and regulations.

Course Overview:

  • Risks Associated with the installation of cavity wall and loft insulation in domestic dwellings where gas and fossil fuel powered appliances are installed.
  • How to reduce the risk of affecting the safe operation of gas appliances and other fossil fuel appliances fitted in domestic dwellings.
  • Different types of gas appliances and chimney systems found in domestic properties.
  • How chimney systems work.
  • Combustion of gas and other fuels.
  • Leal obligations and responsibilities
  • Dealing with unsafe situations.
  • Testing chimney systems.

Pre-requisite:

To take this course, you must have essential experience in installing cavity wall insulation, loft insulation or external wall cladding.

Assessment:

Once all of the training is completed, you will sit an exam which is multiple choice.

Certification duration:

After successfully passing the course, your certification will last 5 years.
